The Time Traveler’s Wife

Finally, I finished this book last night. I was determined to get it done and post my reviews before I left on my vacation tonight. Here are my thoughts on it.

Overall I enjoyed this book. It was very intriguing and kept my attention as I just had to know what happened to Henry and Clare in the end. I loved the sweetness of Clare’s love for Henry from the first meeting of her childhood until the very end. I loved the time when he finally meets her and their present and their future and their past start intertwining. I literally cried at their attempts to have a child and the heartbreak of Clare not knowing if it would ever happen. I also cried at Henry feeling such despair for her in his time travelling self that he has to tell her what eventually happens. It was nice that the author didn’t use Henry’s time travelling as a means for him to change the way things happen in the future. It seemed that no matter what happened in his jumps he never changed the outcome of things. In the end I wanted more of this couple and their family. I wanted to know what happens to Alba and to Clare. I wanted to know if he ever gets to see her in a time jump after he is gone.

This book so could be a metaphor for those couples who have one partner that is "there but not really there". The partner doesn’t have to be physically time travelling for them to be gone much of the time. How many times do we see couples who really have no idea about what really happens in the lives of their mates? It was so sweet to see that though Henry was gone much of the time they still knew each other deeply.

Now its is up to you guys. What did you guys think of this book and what parallels could you find?

I agree with your assessment. I had heard about this book on a message board and quickly bought it but held off on reading it for a while - not sure why. But I truely enjoyed reading this book and seeing the love between Clare and Henry.

I really enjoyed this book and look forward to seeing the movie interpretation of it. I found myself having to suspend disbelief in a couple of areas, but not so much that it was distracting from the story. I love a good love story and this definitely was one!
