Interesting tip

February 4th, 2008 · No Comments

I just had to share this tip that I learned with all of you guys. My family recently began a quest to eat more fruits and vegetables. We have been doing very well but we began to have an issue with those very small fruit flies because of the bananas we were buying and hanging on a banana hook under our cabinet. Once I got rid of the bananas I still couldn’t get rid of the fruit flies. I was watching television the other day and happened to catch "How Clean is your House" on the BBC. In this episode they were dealing with regular household flies and used the following mixture to catch the flies. I figured I would try it out and it has worked wonderfully. I took an old pickle jar and filled it part way with white wine vinegar and then added a drop of dish washing liquid. You then put some clear wrap over the top of the jar and poke a few holes in the film. The flies are drawn to the vinegar but when they go down to it they are trapped in the mixture. I can actually see them all going bye-bye and in a few days when I no longer see any of them I am going to just toss the jar and mixture. It is a perfectly safe way to trap them with having those fly strip things hanging around that are nasty to look at. I can’t smell the mixture so it doesn’t bother me at all and it looks like a jar of pickle juice sitting on my counter LOL.
