New book about the Van Ryn/Cerak case

by janet on April 9, 2008

Here is a new recommendation I have for you guys. It is called Mistaken Identity and it was written by Don and Susie Van Ryn and Newell, Colleen and Whitney Cerak. This is the story that was recently featured on Today and also had a prime time special with Matt Lauer. The book is written by two families who experienced an amazing amount of heartbreak over a 5 month period after their two daughters were involved in an automobile accident. In the hours after the accident through an amazing set of circumstances the identities of the two girls are mixed up and the families lives were changed forever. The Ceraks believed that their daughter had passed, buried her body and began the grieving process. The Van Ryns believed that their daughter had survived and began the ritual of sitting by her hospital bed waiting for her to wake up and trying to help her come back to the person she used to be. In the end both families are ripped from their grieving processes and their roles are totally switched. The story on television was heart wrenching and amazing. I can’t wait to get this book so that I can get the story in writing and totally in the words of the people who lived it. This book is number 1 of the New York Times Bestseller List for Hardcover Non-fiction books.

I had not heard about this! Thanks for posting. I followed the story in the press when it happened because the girls live fairly close to me. I’ll have to grab this book.

Wow! I’ve not heard of this story. How did I miss it? I’ve added this to my list for books to be on the look out for next time I restock.
