I was doing a search on Barnes and Noble Best Sellers list today for some new books to read. I decided to check out things I had never heard of and see if I could find something interesting to read. While looking under the Horror category I came upon a writer that interested me. The writer’s name is Charlaine Harris and she has a series of books that are part of the Southern Vampire Series. I was interested to see what this series was all about and found that it would probably be one that would interest me. First of all it has a Louisiana theme to it and we all know that I LOVE New Orleans. Secondly, there are several that include a Hurricane Katrina theme. It seems that the themes in these books revolve around vampires, paranormal activity and a decidedly eccentric waitress named Sookie Stackhouse. The first book in this series is called Dead Until Dark and started the adventures of Sookie as she follows the world of vampires, werewolves and creatures of the night. She now has eight books in this series with the eighth being released in May of 2008. One of the fascinating things about this series is that it is the basis for the HBO show True Blood. I haven’t yet gotten any of her books but I am ordering the first one today. I can’t wait to review these for you and it gives me at least eight new books to read. How fun to find a new vampire writer after learning that the original queen of vampires has given up writing vampire books for books on Christ. I can now get books on two of my favorite subjects from two very talented writers.
