I saw a segment on the Today show this morning that featured Henry Winkler who is the actor who portrayed The Fonz on Happy Days for many years. In this segment he was discussing his series of books that he has co-written for children. These books are for children in the third grade through the sixth grade and they appeal especially to children with learning disabilities like Dyslexia.
The name of the series is "Hank Zipzer: The World’s Best Underachiever" Hank is a child with Dyslexia who is often labeled as lazy and stupid. These books take children through Hank’s adventures in life in dealing with his disability. These books are meant to help children understand learning disabilities. The hope is that through understanding will come tolerance and so children with Dyslexia and other learning disabilities may be able to avoid some of the teasing and labeling that has occurred in the past. According to Wikipedia there are currently 14 books in this series that he began to publish in 2003.
These books are available through Amazon.com and also through many of the book clubs.
