I have been thinking a lot lately about what I want my retired years to look like. We have been working hard for years so that we can eventually get ourselves in a position to enjoy our retirement. My parents are in their retirement years and are still working hard. Why? Because they didn’t do any planning. They just assumed that my dad would have enough money in his retirement for them to survive. They made several bad financial choices in their younger years and as a result they have never taken a vacation together.

So what would my retirement look like? Mice and Manuscripts! In other words, we would spend a lot of time relaxing on a beach somewhere reading my favorite books and the rest of the time would be spent enjoying Walt Disney World. I love Disney and spend as much time there as possible now. I think that it will take some serious planning to be able to achieve these goals. Where do people go when they want to plan their future?

Northern Trust helps people to come up with a plan to manage and get rid of debt. They have plans for taxes, education savings and just about any situation that may arise for the person doing the planning. So, it seems it is never too early to plan. It is never to late to make the changes necessary to fulfill your retirement dreams. If I can get a handle on the expenses and make a plan that makes sense I foresee a future for me that is filled with mice and manuscripts.
