Making my way through The Appeal: John Grisham

June 10th, 2008 · 1 Comment

So I am in the process of reading The Appeal by John Grisham and at about page 133 of 324 and I thought I would give you guys an update on my thoughts so far. I have to say that I am enthralled in this book. I had forgotten what his books were like and the amount of legal jargon he uses. I also had forgotten that he takes his stories so far out there. The storyline is a truly believable one about toxic waste dumping by corporations and the effects that has on the surrounding towns the behind the scenes legal wrangling is truly John Grisham. The saddest part is that in reality it is totally possible that the political wrangling could happen in this day and age that would bring about the verdicts that corporations want to see. I doubt that they could stay secret but I bet that in the past they were conducted and the companies got away with using the justice system to get the verdicts that they wanted through the use of small town politicians and judges. I also love that it is set in Mississippi, as are most of his books, and has many ties to Louisiana and New Orleans. Not so far out there in my mind that something like this could happen in LA. So far I am liking the book and I am interested to see if the good guy wins in the end.
