This book was written by the half sister of Scott Peterson. Anne Bird and Scott Peterson were not raised together. They met each other as adults and formed a relationship that became close enough that when Laci Peterson went missing Scott moved in with Anne and her family for a while.
Blood Brother is Anne’s story of how she moved from shock over her sister in law’s disappearance to shock over her realization that her brother had most likely killed his wife and un-born child. She discusses the strange relationship between Scott and their mother Jackie. Jackie gave Anne up for adoption as a child and so she did not know her until much later in life. Anne would end up with a strained relationship with Jackie because she refused to just blindly believe Jackie’s assertions of Scott’s innocence. Finally, Anne starts to keep a list of things that she finds odd about Scott and the case. In the end the subtitle of the book is "33 reasons my brother Scott Peterson is guilty". The list reads like it was written by someone who was trying to get her thoughts together and either reconcile her self to the fact that her brother is a murderer or prove to herself that he is not one. Some of the items on the list include: "Scott upgraded his porn channel later that day" "Flirting with our babysitter. Made Flirtinis." "Scott borrowed the shovel up at Lake Arrowhead" Most of these things would seem minor and unimportant to outsiders. They were warning signs for Anne Bird.
This book was not an easy one for Anne Bird to write. She was considered a traitor to the family for writing it. She was ousted from a family that she had just become a part of in recent years. It must have been so hard to meet her biological family only to lose them again because of the actions of one deranged man. Amazing book and it gives an inside look at the family. This is not just one of those crime books where an investigator tells the story. This is the story from someone who experienced it and felt the pain of not knowing if Laci and Connor would be found alive. She also felt the devastation when they were found dead.
