The Appeal: John Grisham My final review

June 12th, 2008 · No Comments

I did it! I said I would finish this book before weeks end and I have completed it! All I can say is WOW! Grisham really went above and beyond in creating this one. As I got toward the end of the book I found myself thinking SURELY the good guys will win. Then about two chapters before the end I was swearing because it looked as though the bad guys were going to win. In the end…it was all a surprise and it left me wanting to cry. I truly felt like I was sitting there waiting for the verdict of the appeal along with the lawyers and cancer victims and corporate America. What I LOVED was that at the very end Grisham felt the need to defend his native Mississippi and to make sure that it was totally clear that none of the characters were real or modeled after real people. He wanted to be sure that his readers understood that he was not trying to say that the justice system of Mississippi is crooked. He also makes a comment that rang so true for me although it was never something that I considered could actually be true. His statement was, "As long as private money is allowed in judicial elections we will see competing interests fight for seats on the bench." This statement was taken from the Author’s Note of The Appeal by John Grisham. Amazing book and nothing less than what I expected from one of my favorite authors. Read this and Enjoy!
