For those moms who have girls in their tween years you will most certainly know who this post is about. There is a new movie that is out this summer that is based on one of the down home dolls from the American Girl doll collection. These dolls all come with stories and accessories and are much more palatable for parents than your traditional Barbie dolls and Bratz dolls. The dolls are made with historical relevance as each has a story from a different era in time. 

The movie is based on Kit Kittredge and is set in Depression Era Ohio. Your daughters will love this movie. If you want her to really get what is going on make sure she gets one of the Kit Kittredge books from the American Girl website and reads it before the movie. Even better grab up one of the dolls before they are gone. These are not cheap dolls mind you. The doll and book alone are $90 and that doesn’t include the accessories. We all know that girls need accessories. This is going to be the hot movie, doll and book for the summer for girls 8-12.

My oldest in only 6 but I am considering this for her. She is an avid reader and I love the concept of some of the dolls. The website for American Girl also has a 6 book set of stories about Kit. I think this will be the first step that we take is to buy a set of the books for her and then we can give her the doll to match for her birthday in November. By then she should have read all about her doll and know what she is about.

I love that this company has paired up reading with dolls and that these dolls are good role models for girls. They are dressed appropriately and their stories are inspirational for young girls.
