Today when I got the mail there was an American Girl catalog in my mail box. I brought it in with the rest of the mail and set it all down on the table. About and hour later I was cleaning and I heard my girls arguing. When I went in to referee I realized they were looking at the magazine and fighting over which doll and accessories they would each get to pick. I thought for sure I had another year or two before they would start begging for these. My oldest is only 6 so I figured I could hold out until at least 7. Wrong!
So I sat down with them and explained that these are very expensive dolls and they would need to be treated like family. They would have to be taken very good care of. I went through the magazine with them and they showed me what their absolute favorites were. So now I have an idea. I don’t foresee this happening before Christmas and even then I think might be a little too soon.
My oldest decided that her favorite was Jule. Julie is a free spirited environmentalist and very much like my oldest child. My child doesn’t like meat. She doesn’t like war. She doesn’t like to see animals harmed for any reason. She thinks being outside is the absolute best thing there is in the world. I was shocked she picked a doll with so may common things with her.
My middle child chose Felicity. Felicity is also like my child. Felicity is a colonial girl who is tolerant of the beliefs of others. She is spunky and loves horses. My middle child is very much like this. She loves to make friends and is very comfortable with people who don’t have the same beliefs. She is however, very staunch in her own beliefs and does not allow others to tell her what she should believes. She is also my natural horseman.
The more I read about these dolls the more I feel like I really want to be able to get them for my girls. They all have wonderful stories that are great role models for my kids. They are beautiful dolls but they each have their own very realistic look. I think I may be starting my American Girl fund so that I can finance this new obsession.
