Chatting with Vampires

September 12th, 2008 · No Comments

With only 3 days until we start discussing the Twilight Series I thought I would do a little research about things that struck me from the first book. One of the things I want to discuss is how Stephanie Meyer’s view of Vampires compares to the folklore we have heard about and that we see in movies and that we find in the Vampire cultures of today. I am sure you are asking if there are really vampire cultures and I have to say that there are people who choose to live their lives as close to vampirism as possible.

I remember meeting a "vampire" named Vlad who ran the New Orleans Vampire Tours several years ago. He has his teeth surgically altered and he dressed and lived as a vampire. I wondered how people like this met others who held their beliefs. Well apparently there are vampire communities online. One I found is vampirecity.com where they have Free Vampire Chat so that people can get information or socialize with people who have vampirism as an interest or even a way of life.

I am certain that the popularity of the Meyer books has made this community a much more popular place to be as people search for information and facts about a topic that has always been so taboo in mainstream life. Has Edward Cullen made it cool to be a vampire?
