Let’s get in to the nitty grity now and see what else we can discuss. I would love to delve a little deeper in to the Edward/Bella relationship. What do you think the dynamics of the relationship between Bella and Edward suggest? His strong attraction to her smell and blood as opposed to her actual character? Her attraction to his unique appearance and intoxicating breath? Does this glamorize relationships as being physical attraction instead of emotional? Are they all about physical attraction or do they each have qualities they love in each other above that strong physical attraction? Should we even expect Bella to love him for more than physicality? She is a teenager after all.
What is up with Rosalie’s distaste for Bella? Why do I feel like I am missing something? Is it just as simple as she doesn’t think Bella is good for Edward or is there another dynamic to the Rosalie/Edward relationship that I am missing?
Why is Bella so ready to cross over from good to evil in becoming a vampire? I found this answer on the site for Stephanie Meyer and thought it was a profound statement about the dilemma Bella faces and would love to hear your thoughts on the answer she offered:
"The apple on the cover of Twilight represents "forbidden fruit." I used the scripture from Genesis (located just after the table of contents) because I loved the phrase "the fruit of the knowledge of good and evil." Isn’t this exactly what Bella ends up with? A working knowledge of what good is, and what evil is. The nice thing about the apple is it has so many symbolic roots. You’ve got the apple in Snow White, one bite and you’re frozen forever in a state of not-quite-death… Then you have Paris and the golden apple in Greek mythology—look how much trouble that started. Apples are quite the versatile fruit. In the end, I love the beautiful simplicity of the picture. To me it says: choice."
Do you think that Meyer really gives Bella and Edward choice in Twilight or is their relationship so primal and physical that there is no choice involved?
Why is Bella such a hot commodity in Forks when she was never given a second thought it Arizona? Does it say something about society or is it just a difference of tastes in different areas of the country? If she hadn’t come from a place where she was considered ordinary and not interesting to the opposite sex would Bella have been so receptive to Edward?
I will tell you my opinion on these questions later on today but I would love to see what you guys think about them! Enjoy!
