Is Adam Lambert gay?

April 14th, 2009 · 3 Comments

Can you believe that the title of this post is one of the most searched lines on the Internet right now? I have to wonder what the big deal is? Are young girls searching it because they adore his sense of style and talent in performing any song in a new and different way? Are older folks searching to find out so they can use the information to help decide whether or not to vote him off of American Idol? What exactly is the point?

Would his sexual preference make a difference in his ability to perform? Would it change the minds of possible fans? Is it really just a media blitz to get his name out there and seen by young girls everywhere? I am not sure it would matter much. I think AOL and other Internet sites are saying it will be a big deal if the audience selects the "first gay American Idol". I am not sure that is accurate. First of all we all know that Clay AIken is gay and even though it wasn’t confirmed at the time it didn’t affect his ability to come in number 2.

I honestly don’t care one way or the other what his sexuality is. I am not sure if I like his performance style. He is too theatrical for my liking. However, I think he is an extremely talented young man and I think he will go very far regardless of how he does on AI. He has the ability to make old music seem new. He can change songs to reflect his style. I doubt seriously his sexual preferences will affect that one way or the other.

I don’t know how the media gets things so off track that we often forget the point of the discussion. So what I want to know is what is the point of the conversation about Adam Lambert’s sexuality?

I still think the best celebrity comment on sexuality was when TR Knight said something along the lines of “Yes I am, but I hope that’s not the most interesting thing about me.”

I actually had not given a thought as to whether or not he was gay. I’m just still trying to figure out whether or not I like him. I think he is incredibly talented. But something about some of his performances just makes me feel weird. I completely agreed with Simon the other night when he said that the performance reminded him of the Rocky Horror Picture Show. I was thinking the exact same thing while Adam was singing. I enjoy the Rocky Horror Picture Show but I can’t imagine listening to it on the radio. So something just didn’t mesh with me.

That is the same feeling I get Tricia. He just is off or something. Like I said…too theatrical. He becomes whatever he is singing instead of working the song in to his style. This is great for Broadway and other places where you are playing a part but I just don’t see how he could have a style of his own. Kind of like Clay Aiken. I loved him but could only picture him singing Disney theme songs. Adam I only see singing out there Andrew Lloyd Weber songs.
