Summer Craft Projects

by janet on April 20, 2009

Summer school break is coming quickly and I have been trying to prepare myself for the kids being home all the time. I have been looking for some fun things for them to do so that we don’t have to constantly go out and spend money. Some of the ideas I had were to make paper flowers using crepe paper, shrinky dinks, pine cone bird feeders and other crafts. Another thing I considered is to get one of those rock tumblers and letting them collect rocks everywhere we go.

I want this break to be educational as well as fun. I have purchased some workbooks for them so they can work on their skills for next school year. I also bought a few book collections so that they each have a set of books to read. I am hoping this will not only help them develop their reading skills but give them something to do when it is rainy or we are in the car on a road trip.

I absolutely hate when we get to that point a week into break when they start saying, "Mom I am SO bored". It makes me nuts. I am hoping that keeping them busy will help alleviate this for once. What are you guys doing this summer to keep busy?
