Earth Day with Children

by janet on April 24, 2009

I know I missed Earth Day this week but we have been going so crazy with the end of the year coming up. I can’t wait for the lazy days of summer (yeah right!). I didn’t want to completely skip Earth Day though and I do feel it is a very important cause. I went looking for information on celebrating Earth Day with children and I found plenty of things that could be done on the day including planting trees or cleaning neighborhoods. I also saw a lot of information for recycling or changing light bulbs or creating compost bins in your yard. I think these are all fabulous ideas and each helps to save the Earth in their own way. One of the other things I found was a book titled 50 Simple Things Kids Can Do to Save the Earth. This book doesn’t just give you ideas about things children can do to help save the Earth it also explains how those changes are related to the child’s environment. The book explains how the use of these items affects the Earth and what happens when the consumption is changed even a little bit. I love this. It gives the kids the what and the why. Kids love to know answers and their favorite question seems to be "Why?" so this book will help you to answer those questions. It can be ordered through Amazon.com and it was written by the Earth Works Group.  Enjoy!
