Your pet and Fourth of July safety from fireworks

June 28th, 2007 · No Comments

With the fourth of July approaching and those people unwittingly setting off fireworks near you house, it can most certainly upset your pet. Remember, canines hearing is 10 times that of a humans, so just think how a firework exploding must sound to them. Here are some tips for you pet owners who just can’t avoid the neighborhood fireworks.

1. Make sure your dogs have ID just in case they would get so scared they would escape, and not return.

2. Do not leave your outdoor pets alone if they are scared of loud noises.

3.  Put your indoor pets in  their indoor kennels and cover with a blanket to give your pet some additional security.

4. Close your windows and curtains and keep your tv or radio turned up loud.

5. If your pet is so traumatized that you feel medication is in order, you can ask your vet for medication or visit your petstore and get rescue remedy. It helps calm down  lot of pets naturally. If you get medication from you vet, do a test run with the medication first to be sure that your pet has no bad side effects. Its a little difficult to find a vet on the night of 4th of July.

Have a safe and happy 4th.
