Miniature Horses A Great Addition For Leading The Blind

April 30th, 2008 · No Comments

A seeing eye horse, yep, thats what I said. I saw one with my own eyes. A couple months at Disney World in Orlando, I was walking around and came right up on a little minature horse walking through the park. It took me a minute to realize it wasn’t part of Disney, but belonged to a person walking around the park. The little horse was all done up in gear to be leading a blind person. I watched it with surprise for a couple minutes and then thought, hey, why not. I have horses, they are smart. This little guy was just adorable, and probably not as big as my rottweiler in actuality. Then just recently I saw a show about these guide horses, and it all made sense. First off, they live 3 times longer then a dog. They aren’t as needy as a dog, once the owner gets them home and is done with them for the day, they can just turn them out into the yard and not have to worry about getting up and letting them out and all that a dog requires. There are very few places right now that are training these miniature horses, but I am sure as time goes on it will catch on even more. Oh ya, I like the tiny little tennis shoes they wear too, this keeps them from sliding on concrete since their hoofs can be slippery. What a cool concept. Move over guidedogs, the miniatures are coming.
