I know a lot of people are thinking, what the heck, why would someone leave their billions to the dogs. Well, I ask, why not. Everyday people die and leave trusts behind for human charities. Why not for the dogs, after all, they are mans best friend, and obviously Trouble, the maltese that belonged to Leona Helmsley when she died, must have been her best friend.
Though her Mission Statement included instructions for 8 billion dollars to be used for the care and welfare of dogs, there was nothing specific about how that money should be distributed.
I for one see absolutely nothing wrong with her request. In fact, I hope the money is used to shut down all the puppy mills and teach people about spaying and neutering their pets. Thats a lot of money that could do a lot of good. i just hope some stupid judge doesn’t reverse this and say that its not legal and the money shouldn’t go to help animals.
